The Case against Russia / Pro-Russia Rebels

A host of information: Tweets and YouTube videos, and all the specifics you can’t get into sometimes.

Much like the case against the Assad government in last year’s chemical attack on the outskirts of Damascus, the US State Department seems to be basing their case against Russia on social media and common sense.

Evidence from social media and “common sense” indicate Ukrainian militia shot down the Malaysian Airlines plane, the State Department says. The US also cites its own intelligence which it has refrained from revealing to the public.

Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf: “We saw in social media afterwards, we saw videos, we saw photos of the pro-Russian separatists bragging about shooting down an aircraft.”

When asked whether she could back up the claims with any other evidence, Harf said there is “a host of information” the US had gathered about who did this. However, Harf said the American government is limited to the information that it is allowed to share.

“Sometimes you can’t get into all the specifics,” she said. “Based on open information which is basically common sense, right – we know where it was fired from, we know who has this weapon.”

US coy on Malaysian plane evidence, points to social media and ‘common sense’

The White House’s case against Moscow for the MH17 shoot-down relies on secret satellite photos and intercepted phone calls — but also on tweets and YouTube videos.

Tweets and YouTube videos? So White House intelligence gathering is more or less on a par with this blog?

The Case Against Vladimir Putin – Foreign Policy

Many people claim that the case is open and shut because the pro-Russia rebels supposedly took credit for the shoot-down. This, again, is based purely on social media “evidence.”

The VK [Russian social media site] account may not actually be run by Strelkov at all. BuzzFeed’s Max Seddon spoke to eastern Ukrainian rebels who said the page “is a fake made by fans.” If that’s the case, it may be that Strelkov fanboys saw the plane go down, surmised (perhaps wrongly) that rebels had shot them down, and bragged about it on the VK page.

Strelkov’s post appeared to claim credit for shooting down not a civilian airliner but an Antonov AN-26, a two-prop transport plane that is often used by militaries in eastern Europe. The AN-26 is 78 feet long; MH17 was a Boeing 777, which is 242 feet long. It’s possible that rebels mistook the large Boeing 777 for a much smaller AN-26, especially from thousands of feet away. But this casts a bit further doubt on the idea that people fired on the airplane and then posted on VK about it; if someone fired on the plane they likely would have noticed it was a large jet and not a small-ish prop plane.

None of this specifically exonerates eastern Ukrainian rebels, who are after all heavily armed, poorly organized, and highly aggressive. Armed rebels shooting down a civilian airliner they’d mistaken as a military plane is sadly within the realm of possibility. But the strangeness surrounding Strelkov’s posts should cast doubt on conclusions that he or his forces were directly responsible, at least until further evidence comes in.

Did Ukrainian rebels really take credit for downing MH17?

MH17 Show & Tell: It’s the West’s Turn – Russian Satellites and Radars Contradict West’s Baseless Claims

Audio “Proof” of Ukrainian Rebel Responsibility for Malaysian Flight Downing is Fake

Ukraine continues to concoct ‘evidence’ a Russian air defense system brought down Flight MH17. Ukraine’s secret service published as ‘proof’ month–old photos of a Ukrainian BUK-M missile system, claiming it is Russian.

At the time, SBU Chief Vitaly Naida declared to a mute press “The SBU has taken measures within the investigation and is getting clear evidence of Russian citizens’ involvement in the terrorist attack (on the Malaysian Airlines Boeing)”.

However, bloggers immediately spotted the photos were of a Kiev air-defense system no. 312, previously pictured in March this year.

Bogus photos of ‘Russian’ air-defense systems in Ukraine debunked by bloggers:

Anything other than social media? (Question to US State Department, with the usual response):

The Los Angeles Times reports:

U.S. intelligence agencies have so far been unable to determine the nationalities or identities of the crew that launched the missile. U.S. officials said it was possible the SA-11 was launched by a defector from the Ukrainian military who was trained to use similar missile systems.

In other words – despite the incessant beat of the war drums and false claims – the U.S. has little evidence that Russia is responsible.

U.S. Officials: The Missile May Have Been Launched By a “Defector from The Ukrainian Military Who Was Trained To Use Similar Missile Systems”:

One official said that, regarding as to who precisely fired the missile, “we don’t know a name, we don’t know a rank and we’re not even 100 percent sure of a nationality.” The official added that “there is not going to be a Perry Mason moment here,” referring to any likely absence of definitive conclusions.

Officials noted that their inquiry relied partly on social media postings, citing specifically video of a missile launcher purported to be a Buk system battery crossing into Russian territory, and appearing to be missing a missile. Following questions, intel officials admitted they had not verified the video’s origin or content.

Michael Rivero: “Look for what should be there and isn’t – a reason for Russia to do something whose only possible result is to turn world opinion against them. On the other hand, cui bono? – obviously, this helps Kiev.”

While those who immediately accused Putin of being responsible for the MH17 tragedy base their accusations on a kind of “common sense test,” common sense and logic lead the empirically-minded to first ask the question “who benefits?” before determining the possible suspects. So who does benefit? Not Russia, and certainly not the pro-Russia rebels. Does the Kiev regime benefit? Given the Western rush to blame Russia for the shoot-down, it would be unwise not to consider the Kiev regime to be a suspect.

Ukraine hasn’t said how it immediately knew rebels downed Malaysian plane, notes the Russian Foreign Ministry, as it unveils 10 awkward questions for Ukraine (and perhaps the US ‘snap judgment’) to answer about the MH17 disaster. However, what is perhaps more concerning for the hordes of finger-pointers is that:

Russia Says Has Photos Of Ukraine Deploying BUK Missiles In East, Radar Proof Of Warplanes In MH17 Vicinity:

Malaysia MH17 crash – 10 questions Russia wants Ukraine to answer:

1. Immediately after the tragedy, the Ukrainian authorities, naturally, blamed it on the self-defense forces. What are these accusations based on?

2. Can Kiev explain in detail how it uses Buk missile launchers in the conflict zone? And why were these systems deployed there in the first place, seeing as the self-defense forces don’t have any planes?

3. Why are the Ukrainian authorities not doing anything to set up an international commission? When will such a commission begin its work?

4. Would the Ukrainian Armed Forces be willing to let international investigators see the inventory of their air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles, including those used in SAM launchers?

5. Will the international commission have access to tracking data from reliable sources regarding the movements of Ukrainian warplanes on the day of the tragedy?

6. Why did Ukrainian air traffic controllers allow the plane to deviate from the regular route to the north, towards “the anti-terrorist operation zone”?

7. Why was airspace over the warzone not closed for civilian flights, especially since the area was not entirely covered by radar navigation systems?

8. How can official Kiev comment on reports in the social media, allegedly by a Spanish air traffic controller who works in Ukraine, that there were two Ukrainian military planes flying alongside the Boeing 777 over Ukrainian territory?

9. Why did Ukraine’s Security Service start working with the recordings of communications between Ukrainian air traffic controllers and the Boeing crew and with the data storage systems from Ukrainian radars without waiting for international investigators?

10. What lessons has Ukraine learned from a similar incident in 2001, when a Russian Tu-154 crashed into the Black Sea? Back then, the Ukrainian authorities denied any involvement on the part of Ukraine’s Armed Forces until irrefutable evidence proved official Kiev to be guilty.

Whistleblower – Ukrainian Troops Shot Down MH17:

White House ‘leak’ – Ukraine did it:

The Russian military detected a Ukrainian SU-25 fighter jet gaining height towards the MH17 Boeing on the day of the catastrophe.

Kiev must explain why the military jet was tracking the passenger airplane, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

“A Ukraine Air Force military jet was detected gaining height, it’s distance from the Malaysian Boeing was 3 to 5km,” said the head of the Main Operations Directorate of the HQ of Russia’s military forces, Lieutenant-General Andrey Kartopolov speaking at a media conference in Moscow on Monday.

“[We] would like to get an explanation as to why the military jet was flying along a civil aviation corridor at almost the same time and at the same level as a passenger plane,” he stated.

10 more questions Russian military pose to Ukraine, US over MH17 crash:

The Ukrainian government whines that they couldn’t possibly have shot down the Malaysian passenger plane because they don’t have the capability to do so. This is odd, given that in 2001 they proved that they had the capability by shooting down a Russian passenger plane.

More recently, in 2001 the Ukraine military shot down a Russian passenger jet carrying 78 people from Tel Aviv in Israel to Russia. Again there was no international sanction on Ukraine as a result.

It seems unlikely that the self-defense forces could’ve used Buk surface-to-air missile systems to down the Malaysian plane, retired Brig. Gen. Kevin Ryan, the director of the Defense and Intelligence Project at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, said.

“It takes a lot of training and a lot of coordination to fire one of these and hit something,” he told CNN. “This is not the kind of weapon a couple of guys are going to pull out of a garage and fire.”

According to Ryan, if the plane was really taken down then it was done by a professional military force.

Kiev deployed powerful anti-air systems to E. Ukraine ahead of the Malaysian plane crash:

Ukraine’s anti-aircraft missile system dispatched to Donetsk Wednesday:

The American government and media are loudly proclaiming that it must have been the Russian loyalists within Ukraine who shot down the plane because they possessed the type of missile used in the attack: SA-11 missiles fired from a Buk missile system. Of course, the Ukrainians possess them as well.  As the New York Times notes:

Ukrainian and American officials have accused Russia of providing the separatists with many sophisticated and powerful weapons, and the rebels have also captured many Ukrainian weapons, meaning they could have obtained SA-11s from either source.

Ukraine Possessed the Type of Missile Which Shot Down Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17:

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) said tonight that it was told to fly low over Ukrainian airspace by ground controllers, putting it at 33,000 feet, just skimming 1,000 feet above restricted altitude.

In a statement here, MAS explained that MH17 had initially filed a flight plan requesting to fly at 35,000 feet above Ukrainian territory, which it described as close to the “optimum altitude”.

“However, an aircraft’s altitude in flight is determined by air traffic control on the ground.

“Upon entering Ukrainian airspace, MH17 was instructed by Ukrainian air traffic control to fly at 33,000 feet,” the national carrier said.

The decision by MH17’s pilots to skim closely to the prohibited air zone — which is 32,000 feet, according to Europe’s aviation authority Eurocontrol — has prompted numerous questions whether this may have contributed to what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.

Ukraine air traffic controllers instructed MH17 to fly lower, MAS says:

A Spanish air traffic controller in Kiev claimed on Twitter that the Malaysian plane was redirected into the war zone and shot down by the Ukrainians.

Spanish Air Controller @ Kiev Borispol Airport: Ukraine Military Shot Down Boeing MH#17:

From Global Research:

Tweets by the Spanish Air controller at Kiev Borisopol Airport…

The Spanish air controller confirms a conflict between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior intimating that the order concerning the downing of the aircraft came from the Ministry of the Interior, which is dominated by Svoboda and Right Sector. He also said that the MH17 flight was escorted by Ukrainian fighter jets minutes before it was downed. It is worth noting that the presence of the Ukraine fighter jets reported by the Spanish air traffic controller was confirmed by eyewitness reports in the Donetsk region:

The Spanish air traffic controller tweets were supposedly “proven” to be Russian propaganda by Foreign Policy magazine because, well… Ukraine said it was fake.

The Infowar Rages in Moscow. From flying corpses to Spanish air traffic controllers, Russian media are doing their best to muddy the waters around what happened to MH17:

BUSTED! Ukraine Caught Trying to ‘Frame Russia’ for Shooting Down Malaysia Flight MH17!:

Even if the rebels pressed the launch button, the key question is whether they were deliberately set up to do so by the Ukrainian authorities. A key piece of information, overlooked elsewhere, came in this report by The Guardian:

Igor Sutyagin, a Russian military specialist at the London-based Royal United Services Institute, said … that a Ukrainian transport plane had been flying overhead close to the time that the missile was fired at the Malaysia Airlines plane, suggesting that may have been the original target. The transport plane had been trying to relieve a beleaguered Ukraine garrison.

The Malaysian airliner was guided by the Kiev flight control center (actually that was Dnipropetrovsk flight control center that guided the plane at the moment of strike- OR) at the time of the accident, in apparent violation of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council decision to close the airspace over eastern Ukraine because of the government’s ongoing “anti-terrorist operation” in the region. Significantly, on July 8, Ukraine’s State Aviation Service banned all flights over the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in order to provide “adequate safety and security for all flights of civil aircraft.” No civilian airliner should have been there, on Kiev’s own reckoning.

A False Flag, or Fog of War over Ukraine?:

There seems to be a heavy bias within media reports concerning the ‘doomed’ flight, prompting Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, to lambaste the West for drawing such a quick conclusion, without any verifiable evidence, as told to RT news:

“They try to show to the whole world that we are responsible for the crash. It is very strange that without any evidence my colleagues from western media would like to find somebody who is responsible for the crash,” Antonov stated. “It seems to me that this is part of information warfare which has been started against the Russian Federation and armed forces.” He also added, “As for me, I don’t want to use this opportunity to blame anybody. I would just like to raise few questions for my colleagues from the armed forces of Ukraine,” Antonov said. “I hope they try to answer the questions, it will be a good opportunity for us to realize where we are, whether there is a possibility for us to restart cooperation and to find who is really responsible for the tragedy.”

Flight MH17 Conjures MH370, Exposing Western Deception, Was it a Staged Event?:

Regarding the shoot-down of the Malaysian jetliner on Thursday, I’m told that some CIA analysts cite U.S. satellite reconnaissance photos suggesting that the anti-aircraft missile that brought down Flight 17 was fired by Ukrainian troops from a government battery, not by ethnic Russian rebels who have been resisting the regime in Kiev since elected President Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown on Feb. 22.

According to a source briefed on the tentative findings, the soldiers manning the battery appeared to be wearing Ukrainian uniforms and may have been drinking, since what looked like beer bottles were scattered around the site.

If and when any meaningful investigation gets underway, the narrative the West has been baselessly propagating will begin to unravel, just as it did in Syria following the August 2013 Ghouta sarin gas attack. Attempts to frame Russia for the disaster without evidence continues unabated, as does the mockery of the people in Donetsk who are struggling to cope with their own limited resources and the “intentional community’s” sluggish and so far inadequate response.

With a renewed assault by Kiev and its NATO backers on the very city selected to coordinate the response to the MH17 disaster, it appears an effort is underway to delay any meaningful investigation or resolution to the disaster, thus prolonging the politically-charged climate of anger, emotions, and baseless accusations the West has been brazenly exploiting, for as long as possible.

It was the US itself that first demanded a ceasefire after the downing of MH17.

Kiev Attacks Donetsk, Headquarters for MH17 Response:

From the Facebook page of: No sanctions against Russia – нет санкций против России:

According to BBC ‘Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine have handed over two flight-data recorders from the downed MH17 plane to Malaysian experts.’

Furthermore: ‘The head of the Malaysian delegation at the handover in Donetsk told reporters that the recorders were “in good condition”.

The handover followed talks between the rebel commander and self-styled Prime Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Borodai and the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Mr Najib said in statement.

He also said those talks led to the rebels agreeing to allow the bodies to be transported to Kharkiv and international investigators to access the area.’

The Day of the Hawk – Pat Buchanan:

Pepe Escobar: And here’s the spin war verdict: the current Malaysia Airlines tragedy – the second in four months – is “terrorism” perpetrated by “pro-Russian separatists”, armed by Russia, and Vladimir Putin is the main culprit. End of story. Anyone who believes otherwise, shut up.

Right off the bat they were all lined up – the invariably hysterical reams of “experts” of the “US intelligence community” literally foaming at their palatial mouths at “evil” Russia and “evil” Putin; intel “experts” who could not identify a convoy of gleaming white Toyotas crossing the Iraqi desert to take Mosul. And yet they have already sentenced they don’t need to look any further, instantly solving the MH17 riddle.

Pepe Escobar – It was Putin’s missile!:

On Sunday, the Obama administration launched its most impressive propaganda blitz to date, scheduling appearances for US Secretary of State John Kerry on all five Sunday morning talk shows where he made unsubstantiated claims that MH17 was shot down by Russia-backed rebels in east Ukraine.  According to Kerry, Russia has not only “supported, armed and trained” the separatists, but also provided them with the missile system (BUK) which was used to bring down the jetliner.

On CBS’s “Face the Nation”, Kerry said: “We know for certain that the separatists have a proficiency that they’ve gained by training from Russians as to how to use these sophisticated SA-11 systems….. there’s an enormous amount of evidence, even more evidence than I just documented, that points to the involvement of Russia in providing these system, training the people on them.” (“Kerry Says Russia Trained Separatists to Use Antiaircraft Missiles”, New York Times)

The fact that neither the contents of the black boxes or the cockpit recordings have yet been revealed didn’t deter Kerry from making accusations and possibly tainting the investigation. Nor did Kerry mention the fact that the Ukrainian military –who also had BUK missile systems in the area–may have mistakenly taken down the airliner. None of the five hosts challenged Kerry on any of his claims. He was able to provide the state’s view of the incident without challenge or debate, just as one would expect in a dictatorship where information is carefully monitored.

And Kerry didn’t stop there either. He went on to claim that Moscow had sent “a convoy several weeks ago of about 150 vehicles with armored personnel carriers, multiple rocket launchers, tanks, artillery, all of which crossed over from Russia into the eastern part of Ukraine and was turned over to the separatists.”

Needless to say, none of the major media or respective Intel agencies (who closely follow activities on the border) have uttered a word about Kerry’s phantom convoy. Without satellite imagery or some other proof, we must assume that Kerry’s claim is about as reliable as his bogus 4-page “White Paper” that pinned the use of sarin gas on the Syrian government, a charge that was designed to escalate US involvement in the Syrian war and–as journalist Robert Parry says, “spur President Obama into a quick decision to bomb Syrian government targets.”

Napolitano condemned Obama for continuing his schedule, including fundraising in Lower Manhattan, after the Malaysian Airlines flight was shot down Thursday over eastern Ukraine. American officials have told journalists they believe Russian-backed separatists were responsible for the attack.

Dear Judge Napolitano, read what your other great conservative hero, Ron Paul, has to say about it:

Just days after the tragic crash of a Malaysian Airlines flight over eastern Ukraine, Western politicians and media joined together to gain the maximum propaganda value from the disaster. It had to be Russia; it had to be Putin, they said. President Obama held a press conference to claim – even before an investigation – that it was pro-Russian rebels in the region who were responsible. His ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, did the same at the UN Security Council – just one day after the crash!

The Russian Aggression Prevention Act of 2014

The US Congress is doing its part to escalate the tensions with Russia over Ukraine and a host of other issues. In so doing, the legislative and executive branches of the US Government work hand in glove to further the US-NATO agenda in Eastern Europe.

The bill, propagandistically titled the “Russian Aggression Prevention Act of 2014,” (S.2277) was proposed by right wing Republican Senator Bob Corker, and has been cosponsored by a significant number of prominent Republicans in the Senate. While Democrats have yet to cosponsor the bill, they are almost without exception behind President Obama and his aggressive policy towards Russia and Ukraine. Indeed, this bill, though obviously partisan in its political character, represents the consensus within the US political establishment – a consensus that presumes US aggression in Eastern Europe to be defensive in the face of Putin’s “expansionism” and “imperial ambitions.”

S. 2277 “Directs DOD to assess the capabilities and needs of the Ukrainian armed forces. Authorizes the President, upon completion of such assessment, to provide specified military assistance to Ukraine” and “Expresses the sense of Congress that the President should: (1) provide Ukraine with information about Russian military and intelligence capabilities on Ukraine’s eastern border and within Ukraine’s territorial borders, including Crimea; and (2) ensure that such intelligence information is protected from further disclosure.”

S. 2277 also “Provides major non-NATO ally status for Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova (during the period in which each of such countries meets specified criteria) for purposes of the transfer or possible transfer of defense articles or defense services,” and “Directs the President to increase: (1) U.S. Armed Forces interactions with the armed forces of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia; and (2) U.S and NATO security assistance to such states.”

Western Media Propaganda

Western media has had a strong tendency to automatically blame Russia for anything that happens in Ukraine since the beginning of the Euro-Maidan fascist coup in Kiev. This follows in the wake of Western Russophobic hysteria over trivia like the Pussy Riot trial and Putin’s so-called anti-gay law.

What the Russian media reports is President Putin’s calls for objective non-politicized investigation under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization. What the Russia media reports are the satellite photos of the Ukrainian Buk missile launchers deployed in the area where the Malaysian airliner was downed. The Russian media reports the Russian government’s requests that Washington release its own satellite photos of the area covering the period of the airliner incident. The Russian media also provides the flight paths of the Ukrainian fighter jet that approached the airliner moments prior to its demise.

What the West reports are unsubstantiated accusations and insinuations and misrepresentations by the likes of Julia Ioffe.

Listen to this Ioffe statement. She thinks she is describing the Russian media, but she is describing the Western presstitute media of which she is a part: “The Russian media space has become so uniform and independent voices so cowed and marginalized that there is no counterweight and, when there’s no counterweight, if you repeat a thing often enough, it becomes the truth.”

No truer words have ever been spoken about the Western presstitute media and the New Republic.

Demonizing a pro-Russian rebel out of context for holding up a stuffed animal:

Twitter is quick, but too quick sometimes – recently it burst with photos of an evil Ukrainian militiaman who took a teddy bear from the victim of Malaysia plane crash as a trophy. But the full video shows he was just paying the tribute to the dead.

“Pro Russian holds up stuffed toy like trophy. Mr @PutinRF_Eng, are you proud of your compatriots?” wrote a twitter user John Gosling.

The footage shows that one of the members of self-defense troops suddenly saw a teddy bear which apparently belonged to a child who was among the 298 passenger on board the Malaysian jet.

“We want those bastards to see whom they shot down,” the man said, “Do you see?” meaning that there were innocent children who died in the crash.

Then he carefully put the toy back to a heap of other items that used to belong to the passengers. After that he took off his cap and marked himself with a sign of the cross paying the tribute to the memory of the victims of the catastrophe.

CNN’s bottom-of-the-barrel coverage includes analysis from in-house clown Richard Quest:

“Richard Quest, an aviation expert, said that it would be “extremely unusual” for an airliner at 32,000 feet to be shot down. From the ground, one could simply look up and tell whether a plane was a commercial aircraft. “It looks like a commercial aircraft, it squawks a commercial aircraft. The Telegraph: Senior US intelligence officials have said that Russia was responsible for “creating the conditions” that led to the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but they offered no evidence of direct Russian government involvement.

How do the headlines go from “Russia did it” to “Russia didn’t do it” in less than 24 hours?

MH17 – Media Buries Story Alive to Avoid Blowback:

US intelligence – No direct link to Russia in Malaysia plane downing:

Downed Malaysian Jet Intensifies Russia Bashing:

Russia-bashing has been in high gear since the Pussy Riot trial and the hysteria over the so-called “anti-gay law.”

Any illusions some naïve soul may have had about the objectivity of the US media has been dispelled by their embarrassing performance at the Sochi Olympics: the chorus of whining complaints might as well have been written for them by the US State Department – which, come to think of it, is entirely within the realm of the possible given the imperious tone. The water, the toilets, the hotels – nothing pleases our pampered media divas, whose hatred of all things Russian oozes from between the lines of their “reporting” like pus from an old wound.

All the antipathy we saw aimed at Russia during the cold war years is now being revomited up by the political class, albeit in a new flavor: instead of genuine martyrs like Andrei Sakharov and Alexandr Solzhenitsyn being lionized, we see the professional provocateurs of “Pussy Riot” elevated by Western media to the status of “dissident” stars. Why do these heavily made-up show biz types merit our attention? Well, didn’t they desecrate a Russian Orthodox cathedral by stripping off their clothes, screaming obscenities, and insulting parishioners? Clearly this is the type of “dissident” the American media can get behind. (Try that in New York City, ladies, and see what happens.)

Diagnosing Sochi Media Coverage – Virulent Russophobia:

Modern Russophobia:

In case you miss all the raving, hysterical Russophobia of the Sochi Winter Olympics, there’s some good news – we have four more years of it in the run-up to the next World Cup!

And you can bet on the Russophobes screaming and howling like an Italian soccer player looking for a penalty kick!

Hosting the World Cup is the weapon he uses to prove to his people that he is all-powerful, that there is no point in opposing him. In letting him host that Cup, we all become part of that weapon.

Best Way to Punish Putin? No World Cup

“We don’t want war with Ukraine. For us, that would be counterproductive because in that case we would be fighting a brotherly people,” Evgeny Lukyanov, deputy secretary of the body that advises President Vladimir Putin on security told RIA Novosti.

“War with Ukraine is not in our interest. It is our border, our family relations and our economic ties. It is a big problem for us and we don’t see any way out other than a political one.”

Where was the rush to judgment in the Odessa massacre?

A protester walks past a burning pro-Russian tent camp near the trade union building in Odessa

Despite clear evidence that the pro-Kiev radicals set Odessa’s House of Trade Unions ablaze on Friday killing dozens, the mainstream media is being ambiguous about the causes of the tragedy.

On Friday, Ukraine’s eastern town of Odessa saw brutal street battles between pro-autonomy activists and nationalist radicals which left 46 people dead. The majority of the victims died in the Trade Unions House that was set on fire by pro-Kiev radicals.

Very carefully worded commentary on the tragedy in Odessa came from the mainstream Western media, as if they were trying to avoid assigning the blame to those who actually set the building on fire. Their coverage of the event was heavily reliant on statements from Kiev that blamed the violence on pro-autonomy activists, as well as witness accounts given by the nationalist Right Sector members.

Based on their reports, it may seem that the House of Trade Unions just caught fire.

Avoiding facts? MSM uncertain who is behind deadly Odessa blaze:

Odessa Massacre – Right Sector wouldn’t let people out of burning building:

On May 2, 2014, pro-Russia protesters in Odessa were burned alive, as Ukrainian “Prime Minister” Arseniy Yatsenyuk promised:

“We will find all of them — if it takes one year, two years — and bring them to justice and try them in Ukrainian and international courts. The ground will burn under their feet,” said Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Chances are, if you’re reading this and it’s the year 2014, the economy of your own country is in serious trouble. Contact your elected representatives and tell them to butt out of Russia’s business and get to work on an economic recovery plan for your country.
