The Rush to Judgment in Blaming Russia for the downing of the Malaysian Passenger Plane

Or: Oh hi, McCarthy! I haven’t seen you for a while.

Balancing the (rather restrained and measured) actions of Russia during the past several months with the actions of Kiev (largely involving indiscriminate bombing of civilians in eastern Ukraine along with indiscriminate whining), it is clear that the Kiev junta regime must be seriously considered as a strong suspect in the downing of the Malaysian passenger plane in Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin’s track record over the past couple of years has clearly been that of a peacekeeper. Putin was the peacekeeper of the Syrian crisis. Putin has also sat by rather passively as the fascist government of Kiev conducts their campaign of genocide in eastern Ukraine, including the horrific massacre in Odessa, hypocritically labeling pro-Russia separatists as “terrorists,” while their own Maidan coup was conducted with barbaric violence against the police and government officials. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they whine that the people of eastern Ukraine are terrorists, Putin is Hitler, Europe won’t help, America won’t help, and on and on.

Unfortunately, Vladimir Putin’s track record has been obscured by trivia like the Pussy Riot trial and the so-called anti-gay law. Due to the accompanying resurgence in Russophobia in the US and Europe, everything that goes wrong in Ukraine is viewed by many as Putin’s fault. If anyone protests against the new barely democratically-elected government in Kiev, it is Putin’s fault. If anyone dies in Ukraine, it is Putin’s fault. And if a plane crashes or is shot down in Ukraine, there is no need to hesitate for one second before condemning Putin.

But before we continue this mad march into a third world war, it might be prudent to examine the possibility that Putin is not to blame for the Malaysian airlines tragedy. We will begin with some questions that must be answered before anyone starts grabbing their guns.

Brandon Turbeville of Activist Post provides six reasons to doubt the official story of the Malaysian flight tragedy in Ukraine:

1.) The Ukrainian separatists do not have the military hardware capable of shooting down an airplane at the height at which the Malaysian Boeing 777 was flying.

2.) The Kiev forces do have the BUK missile launching system.

3.) Kiev moved its BUK system to the Donetsk area the day before.

4.) The questions surrounding why the Malaysian flight was flying over the area to begin with.

5.) The timing of the event.

6.) ANOTHER Malaysian 777.

6 Reasons To Question the Official Story of the Malaysian Flight Over Ukraine:!bilyGr

Malaysia MH17 crash – 10 questions Russia wants Ukraine to answer:

1. Immediately after the tragedy, the Ukrainian authorities, naturally, blamed it on the self-defense forces. What are these accusations based on?

2. Can Kiev explain in detail how it uses Buk missile launchers in the conflict zone? And why were these systems deployed there in the first place, seeing as the self-defense forces don’t have any planes?

3. Why are the Ukrainian authorities not doing anything to set up an international commission? When will such a commission begin its work?

4. Would the Ukrainian Armed Forces be willing to let international investigators see the inventory of their air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles, including those used in SAM launchers?

5. Will the international commission have access to tracking data from reliable sources regarding the movements of Ukrainian warplanes on the day of the tragedy?

6. Why did Ukrainian air traffic controllers allow the plane to deviate from the regular route to the north, towards “the anti-terrorist operation zone”?

7. Why was airspace over the warzone not closed for civilian flights, especially since the area was not entirely covered by radar navigation systems?

8. How can official Kiev comment on reports in the social media, allegedly by a Spanish air traffic controller who works in Ukraine, that there were two Ukrainian military planes flying alongside the Boeing 777 over Ukrainian territory?

9. Why did Ukraine’s Security Service start working with the recordings of communications between Ukrainian air traffic controllers and the Boeing crew and with the data storage systems from Ukrainian radars without waiting for international investigators?

10. What lessons has Ukraine learned from a similar incident in 2001, when a Russian Tu-154 crashed into the Black Sea? Back then, the Ukrainian authorities denied any involvement on the part of Ukraine’s Armed Forces until irrefutable evidence proved official Kiev to be guilty.

The Ukrainian government whines that they couldn’t possibly have shot down the Malaysian passenger plane because they don’t have the capability to do so. This is odd, given that in 2001 they proved that they had the capability by shooting down a Russian passenger plane.

More recently, in 2001 the Ukraine military shot down a Russian passenger jet carrying 78 people from Tel Aviv in Israel to Russia. Again there was no international sanction on Ukraine as a result.

Ukraine admits it shot down Russian airliner:

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) said tonight that it was told to fly low over Ukrainian airspace by ground controllers, putting it at 33,000 feet, just skimming 1,000 feet above restricted altitude.

In a statement here, MAS explained that MH17 had initially filed a flight plan requesting to fly at 35,000 feet above Ukrainian territory, which it described as close to the “optimum altitude”.

“However, an aircraft’s altitude in flight is determined by air traffic control on the ground.

“Upon entering Ukrainian airspace, MH17 was instructed by Ukrainian air traffic control to fly at 33,000 feet,” the national carrier said.

The decision by MH17’s pilots to skim closely to the prohibited air zone — which is 32,000 feet, according to Europe’s aviation authority Eurocontrol — has prompted numerous questions whether this may have contributed to what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.

Ukraine air traffic controllers instructed MH17 to fly lower, MAS says:

The American government and media are loudly proclaiming that it must have been the Russian loyalists within Ukraine who shot down the plane because they possessed the type of missile used in the attack: SA-11 missiles fired from a Buk missile system. Of course, the Ukrainians possess them as well.  As the New York Times notes:

Ukrainian and American officials have accused Russia of providing the separatists with many sophisticated and powerful weapons, and the rebels have also captured many Ukrainian weapons, meaning they could have obtained SA-11s from either source.

Ukraine Possessed the Type of Missile Which Shot Down Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17:

Neocon drums-of-war hysteria.

Despite doubts within the U.S. intelligence community, the Obama administration and the mainstream U.S. news media are charging off toward another rush to judgment blaming Ukrainian rebels and the Russian government for the shoot-down of a Malaysia Airlines plane, much as occurred last summer regarding a still-mysterious sarin gas attack in Syria.

In both cases, rather than let independent investigators sort out the facts, President Barack Obama’s ever-aggressive State Department and the major U.S. media simply accepted that the designated villains of those two crises – Bashar al-Assad in Syria and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine – were the guilty parties.

Airline Horror Spurs New Rush to Judgment:

Pepe Escobar: And here’s the spin war verdict: the current Malaysia Airlines tragedy – the second in four months – is “terrorism” perpetrated by “pro-Russian separatists”, armed by Russia, and Vladimir Putin is the main culprit. End of story. Anyone who believes otherwise, shut up.

Right off the bat they were all lined up – the invariably hysterical reams of “experts” of the “US intelligence community” literally foaming at their palatial mouths at “evil” Russia and “evil” Putin; intel “experts” who could not identify a convoy of gleaming white Toyotas crossing the Iraqi desert to take Mosul. And yet they have already sentenced they don’t need to look any further, instantly solving the MH17 riddle.

Pepe Escobar – It was Putin’s missile!:

Fox News has taken the opportunity of this tragedy to accuse Obama (long before any fact-based conclusions have been drawn as to who the guilty party might be) of being weak with Russia. In the following video, Megyn Kelly compares Obama’s weakness with the superhuman strength and resolve of the Neocons’ favorite mythological god of war, Ronald Reagan.

Stirewalt Compares Responses of Obama & Reagan to Downed Planes:

As noted on her Fox News “Kelly File” page, “Megyn Kelly is challenging “conventional wisdom” in a way that only she can.” I wholeheartedly endorse that statement. Demanding of the President an immediate declaration of war on Russia for a tragedy that in all likelihood was a provocation carried out by the Kiev junta is indeed a challenge to conventional wisdom and any other known form of wisdom.

Megyn forgot to mention this:

U.S. Government Lied to Pretend that Accidental Russian Shootdown of Commercial Plane Was Intentional … Three Decades Ago:

Foreign Policy magazine couldn’t agree with Fox News more!

President Roosevelt launched the United States onto the world stage with the call to “speak softly and carry a big stick.” Bush perhaps forgot the part about speaking softly. Obama appears to have misplaced the stick.

As Ukraine Heats Up, America Needs to Take the Lead:

Even great libertarian anti-war voices like Judge Napolitano is joining in on the “Obama is weak and should be tough on Putin like Ronald Reagan (PBUH) would” talking point.

President Barack Obama should go on national television and call Russian President Vladimir Putin a killer, much like President Ronald Reagan did in 1983 when Russians shot down a Korean airliner, says Judge Andrew Napolitano.

Napolitano condemned Obama for continuing his schedule, including fundraising in Lower Manhattan, after the Malaysian Airlines flight was shot down Thursday over eastern Ukraine. American officials have told journalists they believe Russian-backed separatists were responsible for the attack.

Judge Napolitano to Obama – Be Like Reagan on Downed Plane:

John McCain is mad as Hell and off his meds! Look out, you commie bastards!

McCain wants harshest sanctions for Putin and Russia:

“To leap to conclusions could be very embarrassing and really inappropriate until we have more information,” the Arizona Republican told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell shortly after reports that a commercial flight carrying 298 people was shot down in the eastern part of Ukraine.

Don’t let that stop you, John! It wouldn’t be nearly as embarrassing as your VP choice in ’08.

McCain: ‘Hell to pay’ if plane shot down:

Congressional Republicans have apparently been working overtime to get WWIII kicked off:

The Russian Aggression Prevention Act of 2014

The US Congress is doing its part to escalate the tensions with Russia over Ukraine and a host of other issues. In so doing, the legislative and executive branches of the US Government work hand in glove to further the US-NATO agenda in Eastern Europe.

The bill, propagandistically titled the “Russian Aggression Prevention Act of 2014,” (S.2277) was proposed by right wing Republican Senator Bob Corker, and has been cosponsored by a significant number of prominent Republicans in the Senate. While Democrats have yet to cosponsor the bill, they are almost without exception behind President Obama and his aggressive policy towards Russia and Ukraine. Indeed, this bill, though obviously partisan in its political character, represents the consensus within the US political establishment – a consensus that presumes US aggression in Eastern Europe to be defensive in the face of Putin’s “expansionism” and “imperial ambitions.”

S. 2277 “Directs DOD to assess the capabilities and needs of the Ukrainian armed forces. Authorizes the President, upon completion of such assessment, to provide specified military assistance to Ukraine” and “Expresses the sense of Congress that the President should: (1) provide Ukraine with information about Russian military and intelligence capabilities on Ukraine’s eastern border and within Ukraine’s territorial borders, including Crimea; and (2) ensure that such intelligence information is protected from further disclosure.”

S.2277 also “Provides major non-NATO ally status for Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova (during the period in which each of such countries meets specified criteria) for purposes of the transfer or possible transfer of defense articles or defense services,” and “Directs the President to increase: (1) U.S. Armed Forces interactions with the armed forces of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia; and (2) U.S and NATO security assistance to such states.”

Legislating the Way to World War 3?:

Freedom Fries are never free!

Well, Congress, don’t forget that it’s never too late to hit back against Russia by renaming food again!

Here are some suggestions: Borscht could be renamed freedom soup, vodka could become spirits of liberty, caviar could be Pussy Riot eggs, and Beef Stroganoff could be Beef Svoboda, or maybe even Beef Bandera!

Dear Fellow American: Do You Remember Iraq? Syria? ANYTHING?:

Of course, Hillary Clinton never likes to be out-warmongered by the Neocon warmongers, so she’s doing her best to make the same weak case – it was LIKELY Russia’s fault, so Putin has “gone too far.”

MH17: Hillary Clinton says Russian-backed rebels likely shot down plane.

Former US secretary of state declares ‘Putin has gone too far’ as White House criticises Kremlin’s arming of Ukraine separatists:

America’s unfortunate United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power also knows Russia is to blame without any evidence. See video in the link for more “responsibility to protect” sour grapes.

Power on MH17: Russia ‘Did Not Reign in What It Unleashed’:

While the Neocons are out in force blaming Obama for being too weak in his response to Russia… or rather, Obama’s response to what Russia is being of accused of doing by the professional whiners in Kiev, Eric Zuesse from Washington’s Blog accuses Obama personally for causing the tragedy.

Obama Definitely Caused the Malaysian Airliner to Be Downed:

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has already blamed Russia “without bothering himself about evidence and operating only on speculation…”

But thanks to the stellar journalism of MSNBC, the mystery has been solved.

(Hint: Howard Stern!)

CNN’s crack team of journalists was all over this story from the very beginning, quoting a Facebook post (!) from an obscure Ukrainian official, who claimed to know exactly what happened within minutes:

“The aircraft was “shot down” over Ukraine by “terrorists” operating a Buk surface-to-air missile system, according to the Facebook page of Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry. There were 280 passengers killed as well as 15 crew members, Gerashchenko’s post reads.”

CNN’s bottom-of-the-barrel coverage includes analysis from in-house clown Richard Quest:

“Richard Quest, an aviation expert, said that it would be “extremely unusual” for an airliner at 32,000 feet to be shot down. From the ground, one could simply look up and tell whether a plane was a commercial aircraft. “It looks like a commercial aircraft, it squawks a commercial aircraft. So something is absolutely appalling that’s gone on here,” he said.”

Mainstream media networks and newspapers all over the US and Europe are hysterically blaming Putin:

Western so-called news media sunk to new toxic depths over the weekend in their coverage of the Malaysian airliner downed over Ukraine – and the death of all 298 people on board.

Britain’s Daily Mail ran this front page headline on Saturday: ‘Putin killed my son’ – quoting the family of one of the dead British passengers. The Daily Express screamed: ‘Putin’s rebels blew up plane’. The Sun plumbed the sewer with this one: ‘Putin’s looters rob Brit victim.’

Will Russia shoot down West’s lies?:

Let’s not forget that Russia is to blame for everything that is going wrong in the entire world.

For example, people are suspicious of fracking. That’s Russia’s fault.

At a June 19 speaking event at London’s Chatham House, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen claimed the Russian government is covertly working to discredit hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) in the west from afar.

Rasmussen’s comments were relayed to the press by someone in attendance who apparently broke the “Chatham House Rule” by telling outsiders about the content of a Chatham House meeting.

Rasmussen’s allegation that western “fracktivists” are or might be funded by the Kremlin is a meme with wings.

And don’t forget those Russian hackers! That’s another thing that should both scare us, and convince us that everything is Putin’s fault!

That’s according to a report, so you’d best believe it!

While western media and politicians have unilaterally blamed Russia for the disaster, they have failed to mention the other side of the story that suggests that the Ukrainian military may have been responsible.

Do we know for sure that Russia is to blame, or was this a Ukrainian false flag?

Note how many politicians and pundits scream bloody murder at Russia when nothing concrete is even known yet:

While the U.S. is blaming Russia – and Russia blaming Ukraine – for the shoot down of Malaysian Airlines flight MH-17 over Ukraine, please remember that no one yet knows who did it.

President Obama and Pentagon: We DON’T KNOW Who Shot Down Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17 Over Ukraine:

Was Malaysian Airlines MH-17 ACCIDENTALLY Shot Down Over Ukraine?:

Foreign Policy magazine hopes this tragedy will spell doom for Putin and the pro-Russia “terrorists.” As usual, they skip the inconvenient detail of who actually downed the plane.

The Missile That Will End the War. Why the downing of MH17 is the beginning of the end for Ukraine’s separatists and a nightmare for Vladimir Putin:

Who is calling for war? Does Russia want war?

I’m an American. We must bomb Putin. That’s enough!” a man screams in English at the Dutch Embassy in Kyiv…

Into this volatile mix now comes the downed Malaysian airplane. It is already radicalizing local politics, where the West is rapidly losing esteem and “peace talks” have become a toxic term for Ukrainian politicians. Kyiv’s political class wants to win this war on the battlefield, not at the negotiating table.

Even though there are still no investigators at the crash site, the Kyiv government launched a public relation blitz minutes after the tragedy, blaming Russia and the rebels for the downed Malaysia airliner.

The Plane That Radicalized Ukraine. The downing of a Malaysian airliner is pushing Kyiv’s political class in dangerous directions:

A Spanish air traffic controller in Kiev claimed on Twitter that the Malaysian plane was redirected into the war zone and shot down by the Ukrainians.

Spanish Air Controller @ Kiev Borispol Airport: Ukraine Military Shot Down Boeing MH#17:

From Global Research:

Tweets by the Spanish Air controller at Kiev Borisopol Airport…

The Spanish air controller confirms a conflict between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior intimating that the order concerning the downing of the aircraft came from the Ministry of the Interior, which is dominated by Svoboda and Right Sector. He also said that the MH17 flight was escorted by Ukrainian fighter jets minutes before it was downed. It is worth noting that the presence of the Ukraine fighter jets reported by the Spanish air traffic controller was confirmed by eyewitness reports in the Donetsk region:

The Spanish air traffic controller tweets were supposedly “proven” to be Russian propaganda by Foreign Policy magazine because, well… Ukraine said it was fake.

The Infowar Rages in Moscow. From flying corpses to Spanish air traffic controllers, Russian media are doing their best to muddy the waters around what happened to MH17:

Note: That’s an interesting headline from FP magazine. Is that a shout-out to Alex Jones?

Interview with the Spanish air traffic controller.

FP cheerfully gloats that the story is fake, despite this interview WITH THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER HIMSELF:

If the Spanish air traffic controller story is somehow conclusively debunked (as the always dubious FP would have us believe), then take note of Ukraine’s alleged audio “evidence” that the pro-Russia rebels were responsible for the tragedy.

Audio “Proof” of Ukrainian Rebel Responsibility for Malaysian Flight Downing is Fake:

Kiev’s evidence of militia’s responsibility for airliner crash faked – expert:

That “evidence” was debunked almost as soon as it was submitted to the court of public opinion!

Even if the rebels pressed the launch button, the key question is whether they were deliberately set up to do so by the Ukrainian authorities. A key piece of information, overlooked elsewhere, came in this report by The Guardian:

Igor Sutyagin, a Russian military specialist at the London-based Royal United Services Institute, said … that a Ukrainian transport plane had been flying overhead close to the time that the missile was fired at the Malaysia Airlines plane, suggesting that may have been the original target. The transport plane had been trying to relieve a beleaguered Ukraine garrison.

The Malaysian airliner was guided by the Kiev flight control center (actually that was Dnipropetrovsk flight control center that guided the plane at the moment of strike- OR) at the time of the accident, in apparent violation of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council decision to close the airspace over eastern Ukraine because of the government’s ongoing “anti-terrorist operation” in the region. Significantly, on July 8, Ukraine’s State Aviation Service banned all flights over the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in order to provide “adequate safety and security for all flights of civil aircraft.” No civilian airliner should have been there, on Kiev’s own reckoning.

A False Flag, or Fog of War over Ukraine?:

There seems to be a heavy bias within media reports concerning the ‘doomed’ flight, prompting Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, to lambaste the West for drawing such a quick conclusion, without any verifiable evidence, as told to RT news:

“They try to show to the whole world that we are responsible for the crash. It is very strange that without any evidence my colleagues from western media would like to find somebody who is responsible for the crash,” Antonov stated. “It seems to me that this is part of information warfare which has been started against the Russian Federation and armed forces.” He also added, “As for me, I don’t want to use this opportunity to blame anybody. I would just like to raise few questions for my colleagues from the armed forces of Ukraine,” Antonov said. “I hope they try to answer the questions, it will be a good opportunity for us to realize where we are, whether there is a possibility for us to restart cooperation and to find who is really responsible for the tragedy.”

Flight MH17 Conjures MH370, Exposing Western Deception, Was it a Staged Event?:

Regarding the shoot-down of the Malaysian jetliner on Thursday, I’m told that some CIA analysts cite U.S. satellite reconnaissance photos suggesting that the anti-aircraft missile that brought down Flight 17 was fired by Ukrainian troops from a government battery, not by ethnic Russian rebels who have been resisting the regime in Kiev since elected President Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown on Feb. 22.

According to a source briefed on the tentative findings, the soldiers manning the battery appeared to be wearing Ukrainian uniforms and may have been drinking, since what looked like beer bottles were scattered around the site.

Andrew McKillop raises the issue of whose false flag narrative you’d like to buy:
